The world’s largest Passion play takes place every decade in the small town of Oberammergau.
Late in 1632 the Black Plague came to Bavaria. The death toll rose each month until March of 1633. Desperate, the surviving villagers in Oberammergau gathered in the Catholic Church. Together they made a vow before God to perform a “Play of the Suffering, Dying and Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ” forever–if God spared their lives.
In 2010, half a million people came to Oberammergau to witness the fulfillment of this 400 years old vow. Through this play, the story of Jesus’ death and resurrection is celebrated in grand fashion and witnessed by thousands of people. For each visitor, this magnificent telling of Jesus’ Passion helps them to re-discover the power of the cross.
Billy Wilson traveled to Oberammergau to see the play and to share with you the Power of the Cross.
